He knows I don't like huge elaborate bouquets, but do like the wild daffs from the field behind that have been flattened by the wind and might die. We know each other well! The three magic words don't matter if you know someone well.
I met my wife in 1959. We both worked for the same printing company, and we were both in the same department, but it was a large room, and she worked at the opposite end to me. We had noticed each other since we started work there, but never took much notice. I don't know why, but she suddenly attracted my attention, and I started to ask her out. She declined for a while, but I kept chasing her. I had to do my National Service not long after I started asking her out, and now we both say that absence makes the heart grow fonder for she eventually succumbed to my invitation, and we're still together after 60 years.
