I have both of my nipples pierced and I was wondering if I should take them out before I start breastfeeding. Also is it ok to still be working out my usual routine, I just dont know about the running and the shacking of the baby.

You can leave your rings in, but remove them before each feed.
With exercising, if its your usual routine you can continue while you feel you can, but once you start to get tired, you should slow it down.
Obviously if you suffer and bleeding or pain then stop or if you are advised to by a medical proffessional.

Good luck
GO for low impact excercises, you will find running difficult soon, swimming is a brilliant alternative. Your body will keep your baby safe whilst you run, but your body will be more prone to injury, esp in the lower back area as your ligaments are more slack. It wont take much more than sitting down the wrong way to trap a nerve in your sacroiliac and that is pure agony and long lasting.

You cant breast feed with the rings (or retainers) in. Some women have problems due to the scar tissue, some dont. Some report frequent leakage but to be honest thats normal in non pierced mothers, as is mastitis, blocked milk ducts etc etc. I would suggest that whilst you are breat feeding, if you intend to keep them pierced, switch to barbells, they are much easier to insert and take out, also have a word with your piercer about switching to maybe a different material such as nylon jewelry. Steralisation will also have to be paramount in your daily routine. If you feel this is all too much I would them out some weeks before the baby is born to make sure your nipples have healed properly.
pierced holes are a breeding ground for germs - no problem for us when its in out ears or somewhere, but baby will be sucking those holes...
have you ever squeezed your ear holes and seen the white gunk that usually comes out- looks a bit like a blackhead...?
try that and rub it between your fingers - then smell it... its rancid.

also coupled with general germs you have old milk sitting there which could potentially be a bit icky.

i would remove them and give time to close over a bit - they will not heal over, as they are no longer an open wound, so there is nothing to heal to, they will just shrink a bit.

when you finish breatfeeding, a bit of manupulation with a stud will make the hole usable again.
oooh Joko..... thats rank, I have just squeezed all my piercing sites and nothing has come out of any of them.
joko, where do you get your ideas from, squeeze the holes and gunk will come out, well mine dont, maybe it your hygiene regime that needs looking at!
remove the piercings, a newborn baby deserves more than a metalic taste when breastfeeding, especially if the piercings contain nickel.
you dont do it with the piercings in!!!!

oh, it only happens with earrings that are rarely taken out - sorry, should have made that clear - don't know about piercings elsewhere, but i have a couple of little earrings that i rarely take out, and when i do there is sometimes a tiny spot of this stuff, but even then not always -

i was just making a point that these holes are not easy to keep as germ free as you would need for a baby

it is just sebum - natural and normal, not pus or anything, smells sort of like greasy hair i suppose.

i only discovered it because a mate of mine used to stick a cocktail stick gently into the hole as far as it would go, from the back to the front, and a little white blob would come out, squeezing apparently isn't as ''efficient''...lol
goodsoulette - try that - i'll bet something comes out!
