I want to put an announcement in the local press for a forthcoming marriage. Do I put the bride or groom's name first? Checking past announcements, it's about a 50/50 split.

i used to work in advertising for our local paper and thats how we always set it - but i guess its purely preference. maybe the split is the son's parents placing the advert and listing him first?
I suppose it depends who it is making the announcement. If it is the parents of the bride, they would list their daughter first presumably and the same if it were the groom's parents.

Thanks for the speedy answer . Can send my advert off now !
i guesss its usually the person who is paying for the wedding - for example if the brides parents are paying then they do the announcement and they put the daughter first. i remember having this trouble on our invitations - as we were paying most, my parents were paying some and his parents were paying some. In the ed we opted for Miss bednobs Smith, Mr Jones and their families are pleased to announce ...... etc .
