'fat Vs Thin'
96 Answers
There has always been much fat shaming in the gutter press and on here to some extent but little thought is given to consider those who are skinny.
Not all 'skinny' people are that way by choice. Some describe themselves as scrawny and have similar body issues to the larger folk around them.
I really don't quite understand why fat shaming is considered OK by some, yet slimmer folk are complimented on their lithe bodies just because they can hide behind their clothes and disguise their issues.
It strikes me as terribly unfair and does not take into consideration why an individual has one body shape and someone else another. The reasons are many and varied.
Thoughts anyone?

Many overweight folk are that way because they consume much more dirty calories then they burn.
Happy, jolly his is the stereotype, overweight people are "Jolly" and happy and skinny people are sad and miserable. Many overweight people that I know are self conscious and so build a loud happy persona to forget who they are.
Are you with them when they're alone on the couch gorging on ice cream, pizzas and pies or when they sadly see their reflection in the mirror and hate what they've became? Probabably not as jolly as you think they are.

I find people think it's ok to comment on skinny issues without thinking they're causing offence. I get driven mad by colleagues who insist that I have lost weight and look too skinny. I haven't lost weight at all. They would never make a similar comment to someone who they thought has put weight on.

Indeed the reasons ARE many and varied.....BUT....the main reason for someone being fat is lifestyle. Eating too much....eating the wrong things and little or no exercise and with that goes health problems of which you know. On top of that is the inconvenience of sharing one's life with someone morbidly obese.
Why not shame the thin scrawny ones? Because living with them is more "convenient " than living with the obese.....generally speaking that it.
Why pick on the fatty? Not everyone does, but those that do identify that person as being overfed, over indulged and under exercised.

Others rarely see being underweight as a problem (possibly as so many are themselves trying to drop a few pounds) - last time I was so low in weight it actually led to pressure sores one friend even commented 'I'd put up with those to be thin like you'.
I realise she just didn't understand, was not being nasty.
