I've just had my online grocery delivery.. guess which item was substituted? yep.. the turkey!

right, I have 6 for Christmas dinner, and most of us would prefer the dark meat. yesterday I went to a butchers and picked up an extra thigh joint.

so, the substitutes I've received are 2 turkey crowns weighing just over 2kg each. (it seems there should have been 3, but one is missing). so they're boneless, right? how many would one of them feed? or should I cook both?

and do you think I have a hope in hell of getting extra thigh joints today??

sorry, it's a slightly panicky ramble!

financially it was a fair substitution, but realistically, I'm slightly screwed. my friend has just texted "don't go anywhere near M&S!"

pusskin, deal... I seem to have an excess of sprouts and carrots if you're interested?
I'm a leg and thigh man too......

Lore, I'm shocked. Santa won't be coming to you this year.....
If you were closer I'd let you have a turkey leg and 74 eggs.......

right asda do turkey legs for £1.70, email the supermarket to complain about the broken eggs they will refund you. what about getting a gammon joint? there easy enough to cook and can be done in advance. also what about doing mash and roasts??
Question Author
thanks Firewatch, I'm managed to arrange a refund on certain items (missing/broken) but they won't come back out to me :o/

redhelen.. that's what I was thinking.. everyone wants crowns, where the hell are all the legs? there's a turkey leg mountain somewhere..
turkey legs make great stews, but wrap the leg in a muslin cloth as there are a lot of boney tendons

panic over, I have a bloody massive turkey leg.

thank you St Morrisons!
I think thigh is less of a problem as the breast the most popular. I have never understood why this would be. Unless that it is easier to carve. Good luck Sara. Remember it is the people not the food which make Christmas dinner successful!
Which store was it from? I would have thought it very bad business to have the turkey substituted, I wouldn't dare risk putting it on an online order - having never done one before, does this often happen?
Question Author
Anngel, thank you :o)

Ann, it was Asda. so far as I can see, people have problems with all the supermarket delivery people.

I work full-time (until today) and the thought of getting to a supermarket today or tomorrow was killing me, so I did the online order, expecting a few minor hiccups and allowing time to pick up a few missing bits. I hadn't expected the turkey to be missing, but was not entirely shocked. it was a fair substitution, just not what I was after!
Hi sara3, himself was a 'we must have a turkey' person until we had a turkey crown last year. There is no waste and no manky carcass sitting there (all evil), a turkey won't even go in the fridge (I am not eating cooked turkey that has been hanging about) - turkey crowns are really nice (but I don't like brown meat so maybe one wouldn't suit everyone).
Question Author
hi sherrard.. that was the problem, pretty much all of us prefer the dark meat!
Oh For Funks Sake just buy a joint of beef, its not difficult
