Sketches Series Shiraz/Grenache 2009.

This perky red from SE Australia has fabulously intense aromas of black fruit which gives way to ripe, juicy favours of red fruits on the palate and a touch of sweet spice on the finish. Soft, easy drinking and perfect with charcuterie and cheeses.

Available in Tesco at the offer price of £4.99 (down from £7.99).

And if it's just a single glass of bubbles you fancy, Asda have some cute little baby bottles of Villa Jolanda Prosecco, with a fine, persistent lemony mousse for just £2.49. Perfect if you just want one glass.

And with Valentine's Day just around the corner, why not seduce your loved one with a bottle of Pierre Darcys Brut Champagne - a snip at £10. Available in Adsa while stocks last.

Evening NoM

The Tesco red sounds good - they have just sent me an online voucher code for £5 off wine with no minimum spend - do we post stuff like that here - can't remember the etiquette.

Current favourite from my favourite German supermarket ...

Just another thought... Palastra Rueda Verdejo is currently down from £7.99 to £5.50 in Tesco. I have a bottle chilling in the fridge. :-)
Lagunilla Gran Reserva. Booths. £6.50. Half price.
yum
anything red that gets me p!ssed. does that count? normally a bottle for under £4. i don't think i'm going to fit into this thread, you know x

I take it that's a Rioja, Zacs? Sounds lovely.

ICG, Tesco are doing a monovarietal no frills range called "Simply" which feature many good reds for around £4-5.
For lcg76 - this is excellent (and has won more prizes than you could shake a vine at) and is only £3.49 ...

Sure is noM. Bloody lovely.
i know, nom. i've probably partaken of quite a few! i do sometimes envy people who actually appreciate wine. i just drink it to get pie eyed ;o) x
The lagunilla is brilliant - still have half a case in the rack from when Mr Tesco had it on offer ...
And we just drink it to appreciate the winemakers art, of course. ;-)
Odfjell Ordaza Syrah £7-50

A nice intense deep red wine,a subtle Syrah with plums, vanilla, raspberries, dried figs high on the tongue, together with caramel, chocolate, coffee and floral notes of jasmine and violets.

Added complexity from hints of mineral and “tar”. Pretty full bodied and broad in the mouth, it is rich in soft tannins and a long finish.

Very good value...........
Stray/Shiraz is the only grape variety I find unpalatable. Maybe I've been going a bit down- bin.
Question Author
Of course you do, Zacs, of course you do... ;-)

Icg, there's nothing wrong with letting your hair down every now and then.
Question Author
DT, that sounds right up my street!

Zacs, have you tried Californian Zindandel? I think you'd like it. M&S do a rather fine one for a tenner.
I'm not a huge fan of it either, Zac, but the one above is an exception.....may try NoMs if thy have any left next week down here....at under a fiver, well who can complain.
Yes quite like Zinfandel. My favourite White is Viognier.
Viognier - now you're talking :-)

My last order from Majestic I decided on a 'round the world' viognier tasting - joint winners :

The Porcy Ridge is a bit of a cheat (blended with the dreaded syrah) but both of them are worth a punt :)
