Went for lunch in a High Street independent cafe. Nice menu, chose the prawn salad. Now then, it wasn't so much the waitress's presumption that I would want mash with it that surprised me, more the look of astonishment on her face when I asked if she was being serious. I mean, prawn salad and mash? Is it just me?
Sorry, you are not making yourself plain here. Did you want mash with it? If so it's just you. Did she think you ought to have mash with it? If so, it's just her.
You didn't get salad for school dinners in the 50s/60s, it was cheap mince or other cuts of meat accompanied by white cabbage and mash. Must have gone to a posh school if you got salad!
