It is recommended that we eat 5 portions of fruit & veg a day but does anyone ?

As a child the school I went to tried to force all kids to each such things as cabbage/spinach etc and it put me off eating any green veg. As a result my meals consist of meat, potatoes, if I eat any veg I will eat onions or mushrooms. In fact my other half often complains that I do not feed him enough veg, but I don't really understand how he can like the stuff!!
I not consume a lot of fruit either! I keep myself slim and so far have not suffered with any serious illness, in fact I do to the doctors once a year at most.
Another recommendation that I have read is a myth, is the Omega 3 oils that we all need for healthy brains. I understand that the original trial that was done was flawed, they were supposed to have 3 control groups, one on omega, one not and one not knowing if they were trialling it or not. Apparently the testing panel did not follow these procedures and only used 2 control groups, but published the 'successful' results anyway and it was picked up by the government who ran with it.
