A while ago CiderMonkey posted a Q in Food & Drink asking about the problems vegans have when eating out.  I posted a fairly detailed answer giving my experiences and then I kept an eye on the thread for a few days - mine remained the only answer.  So am I really the only vegan ABer?  Is anyone else here a vegan?  A former vegan?  Is anyone even good friends with a vegan?  I know it's pretty rare but I just can't believe I'm the only one!  (Also, if I am, I suggest I win a prize - you can all club together and buy me some chocolate from veganstore. :-) )

Two of my sisters are lacto-vegan's, whatever that is. I think it means they take milk, but not meat.

My experience of threads is that people don't follow them after a few days, as they move down the pages, even though they can track them in their profile.

It can be most annoying as I've been mid discussion in on many occasions and don't get a reply.

By the way, i'm not a vegan, nor do i know any.  My best friend, his missus and my missus are all veggies though.

I used to know two vegans, but they cracked and became your average Joe vegetarians because they couldn't wear leather shoes and had to eat crap ice cream.  This was about 12 years ago though so the ice cream may have moved on since then.
I'm sorry Nicola for going off on a tangent but I hate it when you get these people that claim to be veggie for effect rather than because they don't want to eat meat, etc.  I used to know a girl who claimed to be veggie, but ate BBQ'd chicken, burgers, sausages and ribs because she claimed that it didn't count because you hardly ever have BBQ's in this country and she, I quote,"could fart more meat than is in a sausage anyway".  Another one i knew claimed to be veggie but ate chicken nuggets and doner kebabs.  Rant over.

I'm a vegetarian, apart from fish and steak.

MargeB not sure if you're joking or not ( i never am), don't want to offend!

Well, none so far!  Elgroucho, someone who doesn't eat meat but does eat milk products is just a vegetarian.  Maybe there are people who don't even know what vegan means - it's no animal products in your diet whatsoever, including eggs, all dairy and honey.  A lot of vegans also don't wear leather and wool etc but that's not intrinsic to the definition of veganism as it's about your diet.  Natalie, I actually love soya ice cream - perhaps I'm weird.  And I also hate people who claim to be veggie but aren't.  That includes fish eaters.  The actual term for people who eat fish but not meat is 'piscaterian' (sp?) but that's just a bizarre word.
Hi nicola,Ive been a veggie for over 20 years and I certainly dont eat meat/fish poultry etc: I actually thought people who claim to be veggie but eat Fish were called pescatarians!!I Also dont wear leather.Theres plenty of shops online where you can buy Veggie shoes etc:Im happy with my choice and I never have a dig at people who eat meat, its up to them its their choice but I wouldnt swap in a million years. And well done for being a Vegan( :)

no sorry love my meat too much but i dohave a daughter with a wheat allergy aged 7 and that is anightmare when trying to eat out i mean imbuying for example homemade soupwhich comes with a roll (wheat) and i carry wheat free alternatives with me on asking ifi can swap in someplaces you think id trodden in something very few have been ok with it so now i just dont bother askin...... and if they have a problem they can deal with me in abad mood :)

nicola - i did wonder that too! I guessed you were the only one! I must admit - I don't know anyone who is.

when i was younger, for years, I didn't used to eat any meat, apart from fish. I never liked red meat at all and I started to get funny about chicken and turkey if it wasn't PURE white breast meat. So I cut it all out of my diet. People used to call me a veggie, but i wasn't.

People still call me a veggie, even though i eat fish and occasionally chicken/turkey...but I never say that I am vegetarian!! they think I am a wannabe veggie just because I don't eat red meat.I'm not! I just don't like it!

my godparents are vegetarians who eat chicken.....
I know lots of vegetarians but only one vegan
