Favourite Comfort Foods !

This has probably been done before here on AB but what are everybody's favourite comfort foods ?

Mine would be, in no particular order ::

Bangers and Mash ( with grated cheese added to the mash )
Poached Eggs on Toast, with plenty of black pepper
Heinz Tomato Soup, with lots of crusty bread
My Mums Lemon Meringue Pie.

Sausage and black pudding sandwich.
Cottage pie (home made)
Chilli con carne
A good beef stew with dumplings.
Thick bread and peanut butter.
Strong cheddar and Jacob's crackers

Mashed boiled egg in a cup with loads of butter, salt and pepper.
Mum's brodo
Nonna's lasagne or gnocchi
Heinz tomato soup
Mashed potato
Pasta fagioli with loads of parmesan

Bangers & mash with peas/ Haggis tatties & neaps/ Spag. bol. /moussaka /Steak & kidney pie potatoes & peas... Haute cuisine it ain't

Shepherd's pie (made with lamb as it should be) with baked beans on the side. Chipolatas, homemade mash and beans. Sticky toffee pudding. Oh, and I am definitely with you on Heinz Tomato Soup.

All very interesting and some doublers here as well.

The only one I would take issue with is liver. I grew up in the 50's and 60's and we had liver at least once a week. It was good for us apparently but as Mum and Dad didn't have much money at all, I suspect the real reason was that it was cheap. We had a series of dogs throughout my childhood and they were always under the table at mealtimes. My three younger brothers and myself soon learned that liver was a dogs favourite comfort food !

Sorry mikey, it's Italian chicken broth with tiny bits of pasta in it. It cures everything! lol

As yesterday - tin of tomato soup (must be Heinz) with a roll to dunk in it.
