I've been given some fruit pudding, which I'm told is a breakfast dish eaten fried or grilled.

Is it? And do you have it with your egg and bacon fry up?

right o, thanks both

it's vacuum packed - is that raisins I'm looking at?
Yes, lovely cooked as Anne said. Haven't had it for years but you've put me in the mood now.
what is fruit pudding please?
Question Author
as yet bernie, I have no bloody idea and I'm not googling it

it'll be interesting - mr sloop won't touch black or white pudding, and currants are a bit too close to "fruit" to be palatable, but if there's a whiff of suet, I could pass it off as one of five a day, along with the egg and baked beans
lol go for it
What's in this fruit pudding?
Question Author
texture looks like sliced white pudding, only it's a bit browner, and either raisins or currants I'd guess

Is there any meat in it?

Question Author
I don't know rocky, doesn't look like it
Fruit pudding is a Scottish dish which is a mixture of wheat flour, beef suet or rusk, brown sugar, currants and/or sultanas, salt and cinnamon formed into the shape of a large sausage.

Normally cut into slices and fried, it is an optional feature of the traditional Scottish breakfast. Although served in this context as part of a savoury meal, its close relationship to dumpling means it may also be served as a dessert.

Many Scottish producers of sausage, sliced sausage, black pudding, white pudding and haggis also make fruit pudding. It is not uncommon to find a "breakfast pack" consisting of sausage, sliced sausage, black pudding and fruit pudding on sale in Scottish shops

I think I'd struggle to eat that with my fry up, might be nice with a bit of custard though.
