is the one that turns orange/yellow a swede. And do you cook it just like mash(potatoes) I've done all those 'root' vegetables in a stew but just fancy some mashed. I think you can buy it ready cooked, is that any good?

You can buy it ready cooked and mashed. Just needs microwaving. Much easier than peeling, chopping and cooking a swede. And tastes just as good, I'm told. (I don't like it, myself)

Morning sweaty.
We women have fairly strong wrists from chopping veg and turning the handle on the mangle
Swede is white, turnip is orange.
Stew without mashed potato and turnips? Unthinkable. No dumplings for me 'cos I don't want to be one.

I think turnips are white and swede is orange. (when cooked) but I'm not sure.
I put spuds and root veg into my stew so I couldn't have mashed potatoes etc. with it.
Nothing wrong with a bit of 'meat' on a gal, imo, tilly. ;o)
Swedes are orange.

I steam them and mash them with butter and lots of black pepper....
Tilly...are you in Scotland?
I love swede, the orange root, mashed with lots of butter and pepper or may be some nutmeg.

I have never cooked a stew and never will but the thought of having it with mash makes me want to heave.
Never cooked a stew? You don't know what you're missing, Eccles. each to their own, however.

Ummmm, no not in Scotland but I think turnip/swede is a dialect thing for my area.
I'm not keen on stew either.
How are stews different from casseroles? One on the hob, the other in the oven?
Yes, basically. A casserole though has got it's name from the pot it was cooked in.
Question Author
a casserole is a bird. You ought to know that, tilly. ;-/
Well I do my stews and casseroles in my slow cooker, so the name is interchangeable. I thought it was a marmite......the dish, I mean.

Cassowary casserole anyone?
Question Author
I've made hundreds of stews but never made a casserole. I once bought a load of those sachets that flavour casseroles but had to chuck them out. I'll tap you up;-) for a recipe in the winter, tilly.x
okey dokey, sweety. Just let me know in advance, so that I can perfect it.

Why did you throw the sachets away?
Question Author
they were like my chat-up lines, tilly, out of date. x
.....and full of rubbish! ;-)
Question Author
you've got it, cariad. ;o)
................but with a little piquancy.
^ Ha! She's a start she!! ;0)
.. isn't ... sicky keys :0/
