I'm trying them for the first time tonight with sausage and mash.

Anyone else tried them yet, whats your verdict ?

If you haven't seen them before, they're apparently new and look like tiny cabbages, about the size of a Brussels sprout.

They are the flowering end of the stalk of the brussels sprout plant. They are like tiny cabbages. I heard a 'celebrity chef' advocating them as the new veg. They are rather nice, I've always cut the tops off and eaten them. Get rid of the tough outer leaves and treat as Brussels or cabbage (I like them lightly steamed and then seasoned and finished-off in butter).
'look like tiny cabbages, about the size of a Brussels sprout.'

Are they actually Brussels sprouts then? They sound like Brussels sprouts.
Oh, just found a picture. They are not sprouts.

I shall look out for them. They look interesting. Thanks, Chip.

Not new here ,we've been eating them for years :)

Hi again.
Now I've had them I can tell you what they're like......Actually very tasty for a green. they don't need shredding, as the leave are small, they taste something like a cross between broccoli and kale.
Are they the purpley/green ones sold at M&S? I've been curious about them. Not seen them anywhere else.
If it's that time of the year again, we should be getting them in at Morrisons' very soon - sold as 'sprout tops'
Yes they are Pasta .They also have them in Morrisons sometimes . They are just the sprouting tops from the stems of sprouts .But since being "rediscovered" by top chefs they are pricey. Morrisons wanted a couple of quid for about three tops.
They're always available on our local market stalls at this time of year .I can get a couple of pounds of them for a quid .
Like samphire which we buy here and always have ,very cheaply ,once things are described as "new" then they charge for them ,when in fact they've been around for years .
shaneystar - don't know which Morrisons' you use but we had them at 69p last year.
I'm in Norfolk Captain and when I saw them in Morrisons last year they were
£1.99 for three, shrink wrapped on a tray .
Couldn't afford that 'oop 'ere int' north shaney ;-))
Can't afford it over here in the east either .When I saw them I nearly fell of me perch :)
From what I've googled, they are a "new" vegetable...a cross between a sprout and kale.
Ah ...I see. I just thought they were just dressing up an old veg with a new name ...lol. Must go to specsavers . In that case then I do apologise if I've misled you.Try the tops though if you do see them ,they are tasty .

Just to clear up any misunderstanding, due to my poor description, I was not referring to sprout tops (which I also like) Thanks All.
My apologies as well for misleading info (I was definitely talking about sprout tops).
In that case I also offer my apologies, there is definitely a revival in sprout tops and I thought that was what you were referring to.
I`ve just tried these for the first time. I wasn`t impressed. I thought they were tasteless and the stalks had a strange chalky texture. My sister said she made soup with them and didn`t like them either.
