I know how popular these threads are with EVERYONE, so here goes..
We're having salmon, stir fry with hoisin sauce, and noodles.
Tomorrow we're having pizza and salad.
Saturday I'm pushing the boat out and we're having king prawn and avocado cocktail to start with, delias chicken basque for main, and home made syllabub for pud. No doubt copious amounts of cocktails, gin and wine will also be consumed. Oh, and some davidstow extra mature cheddar, and a tasty bit of Stilton if anyone has room, maybe a touch of gentleman so relish too, I do love a bit of that..
What's in your menu tonight?
Oh viv, I'm so sorry, I just glossed over jackdaws response and yours kind of got stuck to it. I love shepherds pie, made a gigantic one the other week with quorn mince and added some lentils, very tasty. Hope you enjoy it :)
Love egg chips and beans but try to do a healthier option and have two poached eggs, jacked spud and beans instead. It's our standby 'what shall we have for a quick meal'.
Yes, jackdaw's response deserved to be glossed over eth !! I'm certain I'll enjoy it as I haven't cooked it, always better if someone else does it ! Have to go now, it's just about to be dished up .....
Rocky I'm glad I'm not the only one!
Ethandron how could you ruin a shepherd's pie by using quorn and lentils yuk!! They have to be my two least favourite ingredients, good job we're not all the same :-))
Margo, it was really tasty. In something like that I really don't notice it's quorn mince, it takes on the flavour of everything else, I put loads of carrots, onions and peas in. The lentils just added more good stuff, they just about dissolved into it. You probably wouldn't like it that the topping was mashed sweet potato either ;)
Eve, I hope it goes down well and makes you feel better. How did the ginger beer in the microwave work out? Did it erupt?
We are having a dish that I copied from a M&S dish we had once. It's chicken fillets, battened out till flat, with an onion bhaji topping. I could make my own, but I just get a pack from Asda, mash them with a fork and add a bit of oil so they crisp up nicely in the oven, and spread it on the chicken. It's baked for about 15-20 mins and is yum yum yum
Ethandron - I quite often use sweet potato mash actually, or carrot and parsnip mash, which is really nice. I think it's something to do with the texture of quorn that I don't like, tried it a couple of times and OH and I both left half of it - unheard of in our house! Perhaps I over cooked it or something.
Ooh, chipchopper, your soup sounds tasty..with blood orange in it? Never heard of that but I do like pumpkin type soups.
Gotta go and do some cooking now. Enjoy your grub everyone :)
Am absolutely shattered. Got home ten minutes ago...been out since 6:30 am. Just shoved some sausages into the slow cooker...they won't get burnt there. Will add some shallots to them and have with creamed spinach...grated chedder on top. Comfort food...just what I need.
I haven't tried the ginger beer, yet, will go and give it a go now and let you know if I survive it in the microwave haha! Only just got the rest of my tea down, been picking at it but managed to eat it all :)
margotester - I've bought gammon for Sunday, we'll have it with egg, chips, peas and (yes!) pineapple! Rations will be simpler in-between. The bit of sirloin was a lucky strike.
Confit of duck leg and sautéed duck breast, a mushroom and calvados sauce with it, french green beans, braised chicory for me, a bacon and cheese mash for the mater, a little romanesque as well.
