Clementines
5 Answers
My favourite citrus fruits are clementines, but these days they are so disappointing. Whether I buy them in the markets or in a supermarket, they look so good, so glossy and tempting - they feel firmish and quite heavy - but inside they are dried up with hardly any juice or flavour. They are obviously old and have been stored too long, but how can I tell before buying them if they are going to be fresh and good to eat ?

See if you can find organic fruit. I always see if there is a bit of 'give' when the fruits is gently squeezed as this suggests that they are not all dried out. These fruits are generally imported so it is worth seeing where they have come from as, for example, fruit from Spain will be fresher at a different time of the year to that imported from South Africa. Of course you can always take them back and complain.
