Chicken In A Bag

Decided to buy a chicken from M&S last week. Having made the stuffing and left to cool I removed the chicken from the fridge and found that it was a cook-in-the-bag chicken that I had failed to notice when buying it (or I wouldn't have bought it). Not knowing if I could cook it in the conventional way I cooked it in the bag. Firstly it did not cook in the time stated, secondly the skin did not brown as we like it to and thirdly it tasted like it had been boiled.
Could I have removed it from the bag and stuffed and cooked it as we always have done?

Did you remember to open the bag before the end of the cooking time. Seem to recall it has to be cut 30 mins before the end of cooking?

Yes I did Beegeebee but it didn't really brown or crisp as they do if the skin is rubbed with oil etc
I'd imagine the bag is for low mess, no-nonsense convenience. Yes, take it out o the bag, it's just a chicken after all. I can't imagine having a steamed chicken.
yes, I never cook chickens in their cook in the bag things. The reason for the way chickens are packaged now is intended to minimise handling and therefore minimise salmonella risk.
