Brown flour is the same as white but not bleached, wholemeal has the whole grain in it and therefore has more fibre etc.  Wholemeal is better for you.

Hope that helps!

Thanks, yes.Surely there's no point in eating 'brown' then?

Unless you don't want the whole grain but don't want bleached flour either.

Wholemeal is better but it does depend on what you're using it for.

If you like a nice "chewy" bread, try Vogel Multigrain.  The slices are quite thin but it's very filling and satisfying to eat.
Brown flour always used to be bleached and than a colour added - so not especially good for you.
Brown , wheatmeal , wholemeal , wholegrain , all have minimum percentages of the grain left in.
The more of the grain left the better.
Will do some research and get back to you.
Checked in a recipe book, and old trade description act says :-
wholewheat bread 100% wholewheat flour
wheatmeal bread 80 - 85% extraction flour
