Eggs Best Before Date

I have a box of 6 eggs that have been in the fridge with a Best Before date of 06 March 2021. Will they still be OK to eat?

Over the years, I've come across lots of people who believe that the phenomenon is due to hydrogen sulphide production. No doubt it links in with the common name for hydrogen sulphide which is "rotten-egg gas".

Takes me back to my schooldays of making the gas with my chemistry sets and being exiled to the shed by my parents. The fun we had breaking those glass vial "stink bombs" bought in the toyshop underfoot in the classroom - cleared the classroom in no time at all lol. I've always had a great fondness for hydrogen sulphide.

It's psychological for me. I would enjoy them.

I take all packaging off fruit, salad and veg though (although I try to buy loose) as you can openly see if they are a bit dodgy.

likewise maggiebee^^^ When we lived on a farm in the 1940s there was no such thing as a 'sell by date' . My mum would just break the eggs and if they smelt funny would just throw them away.

Agree Andres, nothing was wasted - cheese a bit mouldy? Just cut off that bit. Mum went by smell for just about everything.

Yes, I go by smell and whether or not it has gone very furry on top - if the latter isn't too thick just scrape it off.
