Seems the current liberal left Government, clearly being driven by the Prime Ministers piece installed in No 10 (Princess Nut Nut as DC referred to her) , is intent on turning this country into a third world basket case.
For one:
Target - Cut meat and dairy consumption by a fifth over the next decade
Impact - Someone who has meat for every three meals could only do this twice a week under the new plans.
Similarly, the average Briton would need to shave a fifth of the average milk consumption down to 16ml a day - or roughly three teaspoons.
Really?
Any chance of India or China reducing theirs or are they going to power ahead while we shot ourselves in the foot with impossible green targets?
And here is the rest:
Target - Cut meat and dairy consumption by a fifth over the next decade
Impact - Someone who has meat for every three meals could only do this twice a week under the new plans.
Similarly, the average Briton would need to shave a fifth of the average milk consumption down to 16ml a day - or roughly three teaspoons.
I am pretty much at that level now, so it seems reasonable. Other countries may see things differently but if we choose to go down a more environmental path others will follow. Just because my neighbours are irresponsible that doesn't meet I would follow them. In a world of waste I want a government that sees positive change as something achievable.
I have cut down on meat (particularly red meat) as I have got older, not to save the planet, but because I think it’s better for me health wise. Would struggle to give it up altogether though. However, I will not be cutting back on dairy any day soon, as I am borderline osteoporosis (due to taking daily prednisolone), take medication for it and am encouraged to keep my intake of calcium up with, amongst other things, dairy products.
so a non story with the Mail screaming rubbish as usual....
what does this even mean? "Similarly, the average Briton would need to shave a fifth of the average milk consumption down to 16ml a day - or roughly three teaspoons."
With all the tea and coffee most people drink throughout the day I think we drink more than 5 teaspoons of milk a day, especially if we have cereal for breakfast.
A fifth isn't a huge amount. When I have steak I have a 12 ounce sirloin or ribeye, would it really kill me to have a 9 or 10 ounce steak? One less slice of pork with my roast dinner? 4 sausage instead of 5?
Anyway, more and more people are choosing to be vegetarian or vegan - I'll eat a vegan's share. Lucky me! My daughter and her family are vegans :D
- Is probably heading for an early death and won’t get any benefit from cutting emissions.
- Is probably overweight and drives everywhere.
- Probably farts more methane than the cow it’s consumed.
