Is it really all it's cracked up to be? Would it suffice on a cottage pie for example or should I just make regular mash from scratch?
I have one pack of Idahoan Mash in the cupboard and a big tub of celeriac purée in the freezer. Do you think that would pass for a topping on a cottage pie? I'm working all day today and don't want to take too much time out prepping dinner.
I regularly cook an Indian flavoured cottage pie (recipe courtesy of Rick Stein) and always use packet mash for ease flavoured with turmeric. It will be fine.
We've used it on a fish pie and the result was fine...it's also good with grainy mustard added, or creamed horseradish or chives...just like "real" potato!
I use it if I`m mashing potato for a pie or something and I don`t quite have enough - saves boiling more potato and starting all over again. I wish they would sell it in big boxes though like they do in the US as a packet doesn`t go very far.
