Edam cheese

Probly in wrong section but hey, Y'know the red stuff on outside of edam cheese. Is that edible or is it some strange plastic coating? I dont eat much cheese and was just wonderin'.

I wouldn't recommend eating the red coating, its a wax seal to keep the cheese fresh. Im not an Edam fan really.....the whole cheese is plastic to me.
