Kunzle cakes were small chocolate shells in the shape of a showboat filed with sponge cake and topped with butter cream and piped with an icing decoration and individually wrapped in cellophane. They were absolutely gorgeous and sickly to a small child like me in the forties. They were made by the Kunzle factory in Birmingham and bought out by J.Lyons eventually. They stopped making them in the seventies and there is a lot of people on web sites trying to get them made again by another bakery.Just google Kunzle cakes and you will see.The J lyons site will give you pictures if you go to kunzle cakes.
As you can see I am one of the people wanting to bring them back but I doubt they will taste the same.
