How can I cook them so they are like the ones you buy in tins, whole or sliced ?

They are the Closed Cap type.

Not really, I get the fresh ones free.
You could slice them or keep them whole and either fry them lightly or just boil them in salted water until they're just done
Slice them how you want them. Cook over a medium heat in some butter with the lid on the pan for a few minutes until soft. Delicious! Nice with a bit of crushed garlic as well.
why bother cooking them, they are great raw in salads.
take the stalk out place a wedge of butter into whole where the stalk was rap them in tinfoil ( not individually ) then BBQ them

just like I'm going to have in half hour

wash down with plenty of white wine
I don't like them from a tin, actually, I think they're very "plastic"...
Butter and garlic is the way to go!
Fried in butter or microwaved...in a splash of water and a lot of garlic (good if you're on a diet)
Just thickly slice them and lightly saut them in olive oil.

I am slightly perplexed here... why on earth would you want to replicate the tinned variety - they are horrible compared (in taste) to fresh mushrooms !
I think they may boil the tinned ones in salted water- have a go and you'll know!
