It sounds like you have a recalcitrant cork? You can take a sabre swipe at the bottle, very satisfying but messy. Why not just push the cork in, the wine will happily glug around the edges, and you'll be drinking the whole bottle in one sitting anyway.

I've always found that a bottle of nail varnish, turned upside down, is perfect for pushing a cork into a bottle!
push it right in to the bottle. Get length of string and pass loop into neck of bottle. Jiggle it about until loop is below the cork (which floats), then pull string and cork will be withdrawn with string - magic!
In desperation .. get a pump with a needle valve(football type) pierce the cork with the valve and pump the cork out.. works everytime - (you ask the second team coach at half time!!)
You might try inserting a large syringe such as the type used for refilling ink cartridges and use the raised air pressure in the bottle to force out the cork.
