Barley wine is a very strong ale, with an AV between 8 and 12%.

All I can remember is my aunty drank them and they were supposed to be very strong.....

It tastes like beer, with a strong barley flavour. A sort of real ale taste.

You can buy Blue Nun at Tesco. As well as the original white they have Rose & Red. Black Tower was another popular wine in the 60/70's

The german woman who owned company lived locally & died 3y ago. Pest who blocked storm drains with litter & dogs droppings - hope that wasn't part of Blue Nun's recipe?
