Hi, does anyone have the perfect method for cooking baked potatoes. I can never seem to get the skins quite crispy enough despite trying various different ways and they are my favourite bit!

Prick all over and cook in microwave on high for 4 minutes........put in oven for 30 minutes on 190. If you want really crunchy skins rub salt and olive oil into the skin (before cooking)
Metal skewered, top shelf of hot oven.
My mum always sat them in a tray of salt - that absorbs all the steam and keeps them dry so they go crispy.

thankyou all, thats given me some ideas.
i microwave jackets for around 6 mins in microwave, remove potato mash with salt butter pepper
put skins in oven for around 5 to 10 mins to crisp up,
remove fill with mash potato then cook for a further 10 mins very crispy jackets
wash, dry off and rub with a little oil and salt. finished result will be nice crispy skins
Microwave till done, rub on any cooking oil, sprinkle with salt, and stick them under a hot grill. Turn them as they start to scorch!! This way, it saves on heating up the oven, and crispy skins take no time at all.
I do jacket spuds (with very crispy skins) at least once a week...

Wash & dry the spuds. Prick them all over with a fork and jam a metal skewer through the middle length ways (conducts the heat and heats them from the inside) I then rub some oil (doesn't matter what) all over the outside and season the skin with salt.

Then it's top shelf of the oven, as hot as it will go for at least an hour. I often leave mine for 90 mins just so the skins are super crispy.

Oh but sometimes you find certain types of potatoes, I dunno if it's because they're a bit old or what but sometimes they just won't go crispy.
