Do you know the address in 1911? I've googled the history here: http://www.schooltrai...history/datesrcps.htm
which says the school has moved several times, but doesn't say where it was in 1911.
Also, would the school have listed him in the Census, being as he appeared as residing with his family on Census night?

My great great grandmother on my grandmas side had easteood post office which is how my grandparents met, Ernest had been in the army til 1918 and whilst he was away my grandma's family moved to Eastwood and one day my grandma was walking up the hill to cross stone and grandad was walking down and they met up, my grandma asked him who he was and he said he was the eldest Lumb son Ernest and she said they didn't have a son called Ernest! He'd been away and so she didn't know he existed. A week or so later they accidentally met again as they were both going down into Tod and the rest is history.
My Gawd that link is brilliant Rose, and for heavens sake talk about coincidence! My Dad worked on Lord Derby's estates right throug the 1960s and 70s and we lived in a house built on the site of the old Cross hall at Ormskirk, the seat of the Earls of Derby (The Stanley Family) that headmaster mentioned must have been my great uncle wallaces headmaster.
Had a thought after I switched the computer off last night - looked for the headmaster of the Royal Cross School (J G Shaw) in 1911. The school was in Newhall Lane in 1911. There are four census pages to the 'institution' listing 24 staff, 33 boys and 42 girls, so rather too many to list here. The reference is RG14 Piece PN25273 RD 476 SD 2 (East Preston) ED 31. The youngest child there was 6, the oldest was 15. Your Wallace (sorry for missing him from the list the first time!) may well have started attending in 1912 - 1913.
John George Shaw was aged 59, married, born 1859 Heaton Norris, occupation head master.
