Very interesting. As the article says, 30 years doesn't seem that long ago but the fashions and the cars look really dated.
Yep, Kendal Milnes, in Deansgate the northern palace of shopping...the Midland - where I sat my GMAT for business school, staying there and then shooting down to Twickers to catch the 2h of England Wales I think it was, a friend lending me a Lotus.....

For some reason, my memories of Manchester city centre are always hot and sunny, which is really odd and perverse considering how much it rains.
Left when I was 18, in 1975, didn't go back much until quite lately.
Pip's for the teenies, stale hotdogs in the ABC cinema while we watched 'Magnum Force' or some such tosh, Pizzaland where getting your exact order or an unchipped plate was little short of a miracle......
Can remember all the ships at Pomona Docks sounding their foghorns at midnight on New Years Eve.....
Chelsea Girl being closed for fumigation.....
Getting a purple crimplene mini-skirt suit on the underground market (the Market Centre) for a cousin's wedding....
Shudehill street market with bunnies in cages and old books....
Tib Streets pet shops seeming to become sex shops all of a sudden....
We should write a book.
Mosaic, enjoyed looking at these, yes I remember, thanks!
Chelsea girl closed for fumigation?? Piccadilly wasn't it?

All these sinful thrills while eating a gourmet meal of 3 penneth of chips in a balm cake!

Remember that Khandro in the Longbar near the Odeon, as I used to work part-time at w/ends at the Wimpy bar next door as head bun toaster :-)
Yes Elina,

It was a very big and popular store in those days.
I had an ankle chain which was the fashion in either the 70s or 80s. Used to go to 'Pips' on Fennel Street. Also the Phoenix Oxford .. Swinging Sporran/ Jillys.
'Oxford Rd'
I can't remember much of Pauldens trt, I remember the store name though.
