You know how when you look for something on You tube and it has other stuff on the side bar? I encountered this chap.

What a generation he represented. The sort of gent I could have listened to for many an hour. Interestingly he didn't say that war was senseless but he got a lot out of it from what was shown in that clip. Compared to many of today's younger generation, well - it makes my blood boil how people behave these days. Thanks for posting, TTT - a very worthy thread.

I read it, ttt. It's a shame you had a genuinely good op, and then randomly used it to suggest the younger generations are rubbish. I think you trolled your own thread this time.
I don't mind anyone commenting on a young person they have seen misbehaving or being out of order - what I do dislike is the 'young people today!' sweeping generalisation.

Why choux? The kids today haven't started any world wars... there is no actual reason to think they couldn't cope if there was one. If they would rather argue by communicating online nowadays than blowing each other up. That's fair.
Long gone are the days when one singled out badly behaved children as the minority. It is speak as one finds here.

right oh pixie believe your own delusions, just be grateful we don't have to rely on today's youth like we did on the gent in question.
Mamya, unfortunately it often seems a few older people use them to make themselves feel better. Apparently without acknowledgement that they were the parenting skills for the next generations... and are mostly insulting themselves.
I won't be grateful, ttt... as in my experience, today's youths are courteous, loyal, and stand up for what they believe. If your family and friends are different, I'm sorry...

yeah, pixie, I wonder how they'd go taking on the nazis. You can't win by toppling statues and burning the nations flag.
We'll wait and see... are you expecting a nazi invasion from this generation?
Personally, I think a twitter war is more likely- fine with me.
They may have to take in the Chinese, Russians, French, and certain Arab, and African states.

".....and stand up for what they believe" - yeah as long as it's PC! PMSL!
TTT and Choux should make it crystal clear they mean the young in their family and those they have met and not cast an all-encompassing hand broadly across those they haven't.

As I said earlier, I feel sad that some haven't met good young people.

"......are you expecting a nazi invasion from this generation? " - No, largely due to the activities of those like the gent in this OP that you and others seem happy to diss.
Not really, ttt.... that's often the older generations crying about statues and flags, that nobody really cares about. You are being quite irrational tbh.
Anyway, come back to me in 20 years- and you can show me how these generations still use wars to get what they want and that the British can't cope. Otherwise, it's just guesswork.
I'm not dissing anyone, ttt. You moved the subject on quickly to your belief that our younger generations aren't that violent.
What did you actually want to discuss?
I think we can all see that, mamya, it's sad though.

I'm saying that the reason the kids today can be more worried about what release of Iphone they have and what's in their twitface account is due to what those in the past have had to do to secure those freedoms. I hope wars will not be fought in the future but the only way to ensure that is to make potential aggressors believe you are prepared to fight them. I fear the youth of today do not have that. I hope I am wrong.
Maybe, and I hope so too. But I can't presume they are incapable. In fact, as far as I can see, they seem to be well able to stand up for what they believe. It may not be what you or I think, but that's how evolution works- they do better.

lol, I should not because I do not.
