I would ban all elasticated waisted clothing. The only exceptions would be the under 5s, sports persons actually doing sport and disabled people who are unable to fiddle with fastenings.
naomi, I firmly believe that elasticated waistbands have contributed significantly to this country's obesity problem.
I know people that only wear 'leisure wear' and really have no idea that they are getting bigger and bigger as their clothes seem to grow with them. A tight waistband is an early warning sign.
'Leisure wear' also seems to encourage a slouchy, slovenly way of walking which doesn't involve picking up ones' feet.
This contributes to bad posture, poor stomach muscles and eventually a bad back and hips.
As both a driver and pedestrian I would ban bikes and motorbikes, particularly the very noisy ones. Both drive me nuts but I'm sure that's because I live in a very densely populated area of London.
Good for the rag trade though. Way back when people used to wear much more voluminous clothing - baggy pants, big jackets, overcoats, fancy hats. Kept the cotton & wool industries going. Can't recall seeing anyone in an overcoat now - even in the depths of winter.
tigger, I walk along canal towpaths as often as I can (not nearly often enough at the moment) and pushbikes are a menace. Many cyclists race up behind me and expect me to hop out of the way - of course I don't always hear them coming. I'm surprised I haven't had a heart attack or fell in to the cut
davebro, I love my top coats. I have them in black, navy, camel and grey and of course I have a short raincoat and long one. They last years. I still have a crombie with red lining from back in the day - shame I can't get in to it.
