A bit slow off the.......Mark...(so to speak) ...aren't you? .....and there's so much more if you read carefully between the lines.......isn't there?................Psychologically speaking ........
there wasn't an England before the Saxons - it means 'Angle-land' and the Angles arrived about the same time as the Saxons and from much the same area (north Germany/Denmark as it is today). Before that, people (including those in modern Wales) would I imagine have spoken some Celtic tongues plus some Latin, the language of the rulers of the island for 400 or so years.
Ask the question in Cornwall and see what reaction you get!
