COOOL! I looove Adams, but didn't know he did God.

Consider this, the most important of all philosophical considerations: if a tree fell in the forest, and killed a religious nutter, would anyone care?

Bobby, I did like the ...not "for" but "because" argument.

Meme, I find your name absolutely hilarious after reading your post, do you know what a meme is?

God is a perfectly logical, sensible, supportable option for the very ill-informed, let's leave them to their illussion. Aw, bless them, they're cute as little bunnies!

Religious people have a problem with the concept of infinity. They can't bring themselves to believe that the universe has always existed. It must have been created at a certain point in time, so there must be a god.

But who created god?  He's infinite, right?

That blows the theory apart. It's a bit like suggesting that the universe came into being in a big bang.  If nothing existed before the big bang, what went bang?

Hi,

If we had evidence one way or the other the question would have been settled long ago. I understand that the Buddhists consider it a non- or irrelevant question for this reason.

That's why it comes down to a matter of opinion, or more specifically, faith - faith being defined as belief without evidence.

This is the reason, I believe, that Buddhists consider it an irrelevant or non-question.

I put your question to you: "Where is the God you serve now?
And in response to your other question (Prove there is not a God), I say this: it is you who can confirm to me that the God you believe in does not exist.

Try this: What is the nature of your God as you understand it to be?

What a strange name for one with your views. But then again, our dear Dr Dawkins sometimes does more harm than good for the atheist camp!!

How can the tired old Paley argument (which, I understand, he plagiarised anyway) still be repeatedly  trotted out these days when it has well and truly been laid to rest I suppose it must have an eternal soul.

Basic physics determines the orbits of bodies around other bodies. Much of what you describe is a consequence of natural laws and does not prove the conclusion that you reached before you found the evidence for it.

You would have done slightly better in saying that there is design in the laws that govern the physical universe or that there is design inherent in evolution thats the usual tack.

Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder. Far from seeing beauty in fashion these days, I see rather a lot that is plainly ridiculous, but that is also a subjective view.

But you try this one as well: What is the nature of your God as you understand it where is your Go and what has he done?

Let us not forget Schroedinger's thought experiment. It would be cruel to suggest that a cat be exposed to that risk. Perhaps a fanatic of some sort should be in the box instead. But then, when the good doctor asks "After an hour, vill the religious fanatic be alife, or vill he be shplattered about ze box by ze radiation?", I suspect that the general response will be "Who gives one?". Maybe that's why he 'used' a cat.

If no-one comes back with an attempt to describe God, maybe I should give it a go myself?

Yeah, give it a go. God, I wonder if I'm really the same species as the brainwashed. I think the most important part of your discussion was the german accent, pretty good replication there. The actual answer is that by using a black cat, Schroedy tempted fate, so it wasn't 50/50.

I have a better 'thought' experiment. Believers. Try it. LOL

Not quite (actually not at all) true to say "Basic physics determines the orbits of bodies around other bodies". Na. Basic physics describes the orbits of bodies around other bodies. They appear to obey certain LAWS, whereby we can predict what will happen within certain parameters. That we should be able to describe what will probably happen within certain parameters, and that everything is not totally random, is a burden that rests on the non-believers shoulders....go!

There is an intelligence greater than mankind that created the universe and everything in it. It's name is TGi and is unpronounceable.

TGi created all the 'laws' of physics - we have only discovered them byTGi's permission.

Why can't you see TGi's hand in everything you see? TGi created your eyes so that you could see its creation.

TGi has revealed itself through the universe and through you and if you cannot sincerely acknowledge its presence, you will not be rewarded with eternal life.

Part1

I am an atheist and yes before you ask, God made me that way.  I have read the Bible cover to cover, have attended church service weakly for the last three years and have yisited many different christian sects in my area seeking a connection to God, finding none!

As I only have knowledge of the christian religion I will only disscuss the existence of the christian God, which oddly enough is also the Jewish God.

Having of been around so many christians I have heard the following defense regarding God's existence numerous times,"When your a christian you can feel God and you know this is the right religion." or ,"I can feel the holy spirit and I just know there is a God."  This my friends is the foundation of the christian religion and it is called faith.

So one can only truly become a christian when one no longer questions the existence of God.  So to be a true christian you must not challenge God, his word (the bible), his representives on earth (clergy) or the rulings of your supperiours (by following the bible which states one must follow the laws of the land).

This system of control when implimented by a non-religious person or organisation is refered to hegemony.  Therefore religion can be seen as a method of controling people by allowing them not to make there own moral decessions and to get on with just living.  In the words of Carl Marx(co-founder of communism), "Religion is the opium of the masses."

Adolf Hitler, one of histories greatest brain washers, success can be directly related to this theory; Germany devestated by WWI => Germans in depression => Hitler rises to power => blames jews for problems => people accept as fact and go on to committ some of histories greatest attrosities.

Part 2 of 2

When people no longer challange anything they can be made to do anything, no matter how horrific.  I am not calling christians Nazi's for one moment, but asking you to consider that both groups share a lot in common including; unquestionable belief in a saviour(Hitler, Jesus), unquestionable belief in their movement, belief that all other people are inferior and the belief that God is on you side.

Before I finish ill leave you with a few more thoughts;

Jesus wasn't a Christian, he didn't follow the bible, he didn't obey the laws of the land and he was jewish.  According to the bible's logic, if Jesus was born today he could not get to heaven.

Jesus suppositivly came to set us free from the old testoment's rules, with only 3 christian laws, belief in Jesus as saviour, repenting of sins and love thy neighbour.  So why did Jesus' disipiles write new christian books with new rules and why did the catholic church include old testoment books and books containing rules in the Bible?

The Catholic, Anglican, Baptist and all other Christian churches are cults be diffeniton, yet they refer to others religions as cults.

The Bible demands christians not to worship false idols or symbols, yet christians wear crucifixes, pray to statues of the virgin Mary and give worship in front of statues representing Jesus Christ on the cross.

These resons and many others are why I must ask, If there was a God would he allow people to blindly manipulate others in his name?

what is it with the sunday school level of argument from most theists? did you get a cookie for trying to convert the internet heathens?

Scarew:

Having "attended church service weakly for the last three years", may I suggest that your time would have been better spent going to an english class?

I've seen some poor spelling on AB, but yours is shocking!

I'm not saying I'm perfect by the way - I make my fair share of errors.

If you're not English (or if English is not your Native language), I'll let you off.

Do not put your faith in the prophets - they are only human like you and I. They lived and died. TGi is the creator and ruler of the cosmos. Religions try to understand through their prophets and try to each TGi through their prophets and scriptures  but they mislead you.

God is real if you if you believe in him

God is
he is real if you believe in him

bobby, it's standard internet protocol not to criticise spelling mistakes. So their.

scarew, that was an excellent post. However, in your section on idolatry you forgot to mention Mary's apparitions on cheesy toast. How do you explain that phenomenon? TGi?

Shapes in cheesey wotsits, tears from statues, writing on walls are all from TGi. Directly or indirectly, TGi causes all these things. Sometimes TGi acts through men to create these phenomena, sometimes TGi does it itself. Even the parsnip that looks like a donkey's (you know what) is created by TGi and brings merriment to the lives of sad men and children.

Open your eyes, c0ck your ears, put out your hands, wake up, smell the coffee and know that TGi governs all and is the cause of all. True enlightenment comes only with intimate and full knowledge of TGi.

I doubt anyone will ever read this far in this post, but... If there is a God, prove it. If there isn't, prove it. All I can say is that there are many religions all apparently reading the same book and saying they are right and everyone else is wrong. If there is a God, bad things probably happen because people are stupid. People argue because their opinions are different (due to many circumstances... upbringing for one, because parents are a direct influence). They can't both be right, but they can both be wrong.

KIFARU

Welcome to this thread - it is alive and well.

You have opened your senses and your mind. You can see the works of TGi as though through a cloudy glass.

You must concentrate your senses and your mind and come to know TGi more intimately.

The more you see of TGi, the more yet will be revealed to you.

El D

Have you shortened your name - or are you someone else?

TGi tells me that it is you with a shorter name. But my perception of TGi's message may be wrong.

Cookies are a creation of TGi and it is not only the internet heathens that need to be converted.  None need be converted, all may be drawn to the truth.
