designing my kitchen

I am currently in the process of changing my kitchen but want to design it myself, what do I do? Thanks people!

Get some graph-paper and decided which scale you'll be using and then draw out the floor plan of your Kitchen.

Have a look at some on-line catalogues to get the sizes of appliances and cabinets, etc. I would draw these out, on card, at the same scale and then you can move them about to et the best arrangement.

Have a look around first at was is available and the sizes of units made, are you just thinking of doing the design or all of the build?

You are quicker at typing than I am Jack, that would have been my next suggestion.

See what sizes the units come in that you like, work out what you want where, keep in mind what items are best on outside walls i.e washing machine.

There are loads of online kitchen planners that allow you to input the dimensions, windows, doors etc. You can then 'place' units to suit you.

Google on line kitchen planner. I'm sure you'll find loads.

What sort of budget have you given yourself?

I bought B.Q doors and draw fronts.

My budget is endless so long as i have what I want. I don't want any B&Q junk I want to design it all myself

Whatever you do ............ don't get one of those designer/consultants in from a supplier. They're mostly not designers nor consultants ......... but salesmen :o(

You can build the carcasses out of plain chipboard, melamine-faced chipboard, MDF or hardwood.

You can buy doors from many different places in many different styles but they will usually be to a standard size.

........... yes, easy to make up carcases, especially useful for non-standard sizes and infills

TB you are absolutelyy right and I had one in my house trying to sell me cheap rubbish for way more than its worth and she was in my house for 4 hours!! takes the wee wee but she was pretty hot although the wife wasn't impressed by that!

Just an idea for the carcases............. the hardwood mill I use makes up oak boards in 600mm widths (20mm thick) by biscuit jointing short ends together. Very useful (and considerably cheaper) than trying to find wide boards which you probably won't anyway.
