Book Shelf ?
6 Answers
I'm planning on fixing a book shelf to a wall, it's a pine board approx 4 ft x 6ins.
The wall itself is only plaster-board and I'm worried if its gonna be tough enough to bear the weight of books.
I have some 'Spring Toggles', size M5 x 50mm long
Much obliged for any advice
Thank's

Draw a pencil line where the shelf is going to be, Chip. Drill a few holes along the line until you find a vertical stud (timber upright). The other studs will be at 400mm centres (possibly 600mm). The shelf will hide the holes.

I take it you have a 'dry lined' room. You have my sympathy, in my day plasterers were able to plaster rather than just skim a ready flat surface. Yes you need to find the wooden batons behind, as Fitzer says. You can buy detectors to help with this. And it dictates where you can and can't put the shelf supports. Spring toggles are likely to just pull through due to the weight of the books and shelf.
