In my week of household disasters put a pan of onions and mince on last night and promptly forgot about it (got distracted gossiping as you do). It is thick black. Boiling hot water and washing up liquid has shifted some. Any other bright ideas?

I had to resort to buying cheap pans and just binning them if something like that happened. I have a very short attention span - and something bad happens to the pan.
The iron and dishwasher both died. The landline has ceased to function. Internet is shaky. A loo got blocked. I burned a pan. The oven is in its death throes. And the shop ran out of pinot.
Bio washing powder and water bring to boil and simmer an hour empty and scrub out. Repeat if necessary .The burnt on residue will come loose and can be removed/ scraped off.
I knew a guy at University who started out like this and, after boiling his pan dry twice more containing cleaner for the first time he boiled it dry, he went to pick it up and left the base stuck to the electric hob. One of the funniest things I've ever seen ...
