Automatic Door Closer
13 Answers
I live in a block of sheltered flats, and the door to my flat really bangs if I let it go. It's in a corridor and I worry about upsetting my neighbours. Please can anyone recommend a door closer that I can get. Thank you very much.

Does it bang because it already has a simple spring-type closer fitted? "Overhead door closer". Briton is one of the best known. Cheaper ones are around and will work just as well providing they're not too cheap.
Look for one with TWO adjustments.
The first adjustment controls the arc travelled when you first let go of the door. This should not too strong so that it's hard work pulling it open. It's really just the speed of travel.
The second adjustment is the most important. It controls the final 10% or so of travel. The bit where the door closes and latches.
Not too strong so that it bangs, but not too weak so that it fails to latch.
Fitting an overhead is "surface mounting". Just a few screws. No digging out chunks of door required.
Fitting is very quick. The time-consuming part is the adjustment.
A matter of trial & error and adjusting a simple screw.
Any help?

I see what you mean Helly. Yes, the link I gave goes straight to the Screwfix page of all the closers. I wasn't pointing to any particular one.
I don't know what that catalogue number is. Sorry about that.
Anyway, between Screwfix and Amazon. There are plenty around the price range that should be right for you.
I've always gone for Briton and Eclipse.
I would go for this one.....
