Growing Spuds In A Container.

I intend to grow a few spuds in a large bucket this year. Just the one question :- Can I use peat compost?????

Peat based compost, yes. The spuds produced will come out clean, rather like Egyptian potatoes.

Although I know it's ecologically incorrect to use peat-based composts, the alternatives are rubbish. I've tried peat-free compost and peat-free growbags -they have all sorts of rubbish in them and simply don't do the job i.e. produce decent plants.

If the issue here, is to use peat or not to use it, it may be possible to use 'Peat Reduced compost' for good results.
A compromise maybe ?

Peat on its own would have poor nutritional value.
Don't forget to provide good drainage in your bucket, by making some holes in the bottom and adding some crocks.

Forget peat and use the right thing for the job .. a Miracle Grow Bag.
Dont grow the spuds in the bag, just use the contents of the grow bag in your containers. The spuds will get fed and you would have to be really careless not to not get a good result.
