Try putting the seeds on a damp piece of kitchen towel and leaving them in the airing cupboard until they sprout. Check on a daily basis because you don't want them to dry out. As soon as you have a white root on the seed, plant as normal. Parsley is difficult. I have grown Flat Leaf Parsley this year and the germination rate is
Soak in warm water overnight, and have a female member of the family plant the seeds. Old wife's tale.
Or do what I do and buy a ready made plant from Waitrose.
I'm sowing them in my poly tunnel, chippy. So the temperature should be ok.
I thought the old wives tale was they had to be sown by a virgin, they're pretty rare where I live;-)
Last year I had trouble as well .. I scattered about 50 seeds in a tray and sure enough I had loads germinate and develop into seedlings. When I potted them on all of a sudden most of them gave up and I was left with about 5-6. These carried on growing and supplied me with much more parsley than I could wish for. One of the Bushes was almost 2 foot tall .Sorry but I had to trim it and compost it. I believe it was too hot in the polytunnel an it preffered a slightly cooler surround when moved to the entrance of the tunnel. They both carried on producing right through until the large one was felled by the mice in January this year.
Last week I took a couple of photos of runner beans .. the 2nd one was taken 48 hours after the first .. plants never cease to amaze. In the background is the small parsley plant I have been left with.
Give the parsley seeds a chance .. I covered mine with cling film to keep the moisture in and when a few seeds showed their heads, just remove the film and dont let them dry out.
Pot them on 3 at a time into 5" pots and before you know it, you will be overun with parsley.
Nearly all my climbing beans have been put in the ground tonight.
I buy a pot of French parsley, which I like the taste of, in a supermarket and plant that out in a large tub outside, or split it into two. It even lasted over winter, when I put it in last Spring.
