We have a cherry tree in a pot, you can limit its growth by constant pruning, you will need to keep it well watered and every few years remove it from the pot and prune the dead roots back and also any roots that are winding around the pot and replace some of the soil with new compost.

Use the largest pot that you can accommodate!!

Excellent thank you
my mum had a cherry tree in a pot and it never grew any cherries. Apparently you need 2 trees to pollenate each other, so she got another tree and hey presto cherries.

There's an ornamental cherry tree in the garden, do you think that would do the trick?
I have cherries on my tree as we speak, its in a pot and the only one in the garden!!
RATTER15 Would that not be down to the local (feathered) birds?
Some varieties of cherry are self-fertile. The Morello strains all are, and amongst the sweet cherries Stella is becoming a very popular self-fertile variety.
