I am looking for a japanese style tree to have in my garden about 5 foot tall slow growing, maple or something but have no idea where to find one,has anyone an idea who i could try? most of my local garden centres dont carry anything like this...help please...thanks
Hi Stevie,
I think your best bet is to obtain your tree from a specialist nursery, either by visiting if you can find one localy or by mail order. I found several by Googling 'Japanese garden plants' including this one that looks good- http://www.japanesegardenplants.co.uk/plants.h tm
I think the epitome of a Japanese garden are the pines. My recomendation would be- Pinus strobus 'nana' Good Luck. Tbird+
I'm really surprised that you can't find any stevie. As they've become more & more popular they seem to be available in most places where I live in Derbyshire. Even my local flower shop have a few now & then.
If you've tried all the popular outlets look in Yellow pages for garden centres & nurseries & try ringing a few of the lesser known names. Even if they don't have any chances are they'll know 'a man/woman who does'! :o)
The problem with mail order sometimes is that they seem well priced but are very small when you get them....
I live in Devon, and frequent a lot of garden centres and every one of them have a large variety of Japanese maples, I would just go to your best Garden Centre and ask their advice, if they haven't got them in stock they will order one.
