My dining room table has welsh grey slate in it, which has a few marks on it from food and drink.  Water doesn't seem to shift the marks and i dont want to make it worse.  Any ideas how to clean it?

try some hob bright that should do it you may even move the stains with that fairy power spray without damaging the slate..

Do you think hob brite will be ok to use?  it seems to mark quite easily and i don't want the cleaner to leave marks.

try rubbing baby oil onto the slate and let it dry. then buff it up with a lint free cloth.
I actually use Linseed Oil on our slate hearth.

you can get slate dressing, which is designed for cleaning slate. Try the link below

or any other tile shop or hardware shop.

Where did you get your dining room table from?? i know this isnt part of the answer your looking for but we are looking for a dining room table which has grey slate in it?

I brought the table from Glasswells in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.  Not sure of the name of the makers, but I know it came all the way from Denmark.  It might be worth calling Glasswells if you are not in the area and ask them.  You may find a stockist closer to home.  The table is solid light american oak.  We got a side board to match as well!
