When going away on holiday whats the best way of giving a water supply to my troughs of plants and Tomatoes. I've heard about ways with bottles etc. If anyone could help please?

But you can get plastic spikes that you screw into large cola/lemonade bottles and stick into the compost. I don't know how long they will supply water for, I suppose it depends on the weather and how dry the compost gets. If you can cover the soil to help avoid evaporation that will help keep it moist too.
Can you not ask a friend or relative to water them while you are away ? Or perhaps pay someone's son/daughter you know to pop in and water them ? I did this when I was younger for a couple I knew and also looked after their ferrets lol ! I enjoyed it actually in between school homework of course, it was a nice change.
I gather all my pots into one shaded spot and connect my lawn-watering device to a timer. The device can be set to oscillate water in just one direction (this saves water) and I set the timer to just 5 minutes every evening. My valuable bonsais have survived for many years using this method. (not to mention my not so valuable toms!)
