New Washing Machine

Well the time has come to buy a new washing machine but as I have had mine for such a long time I am not sure what to look for.

Is it better to have cold or hot fill? I want to be able to see what stage the wash is at; all the normal programmes; white and 60cm wide x 85cm high any recommendations gratefully received

Nearly all W/machines are now 'cold fill'. The popularity of low temperature detergents and powders make it unnecessary/uneconomic to have a hot fill.

I think the vast majority are cold fill now to save energy. When i replaced I went for the biggest capacity and fastest spin that I could fit in the space I had. Be warned that big capacity machines tend to be the same width and height as standard machines but are bigger from to back and so may stick out from under the worktop.

Also from my own experience the drum can be really big altho the actual machine is just standard. With my new machine my drum holds a tremendous amount of laundry - sometimes I have to wait until the end of a week to gather up dirty laundry. Drum is fantastic for anybody with a family but a little too big for onesies. JjCon

Wolf must look at the manual again but am just getting to grips with it as it is digital and has truly a mind of its own. My last machine had all kinds of loads but again will check this out.

I recommend getting it from John Lewis - they usually give a 2 year guarantee for no extra charge, instead of the usual 1 year.

Just had a wee look - it is a Candy. Need to hoke out the manual to get the model number for you. I know years ago Candy was known to be a cheap make but this machine sold for more than £300 so it was expensive enough.

For what it is worth my Bosch seems to work well. The Zanussi I had before that wasn't bad either.

I've got a Hotpoint, I'm very pleased with its washing capabilities, but the one thing it doesn't have - which you mention - is the ability to tell me where it's reached in the wash cycle.

Boxy I don't think any of the new machines particularly digital tell you any more.

The only timer I have is when I turn it to a higher spin - it starts from 10 mins down to 9 etc.

I recommend Hotpoint...I have had mine 16 years and have only had to change the rubber round the door once.I use it about four times a week in winter time,more in summer when curtains etc. can be done.

All my appliances are Hotpoint...will not consider any other make.

I look at loads of sites and check reviews for the actual model that I am looking at, some excellent firms have produced dud models.

All done - with a bit of research and your help; looking at the internet and reviews I have ordered an Indesit from Tesco. With staff discount and club card points - including free recycling and connect and test £228.48 Very pleased thank you
