my friend wanted to change his taps in his bathroom and he has the system where the mains fills the tank in his loft which is then sent to his taps and water heater . so he turned of the gate valves in his loft changed taps turned back on and he only has cold water, I thinks its air but how do we get it out??

A couple of ways, Steve. Much like OG's idea, which works well with traditional taps. With a monobloc, put your hand over the spout to stop any water coming out, then open up H and C. Depending on the type of mixer, the cold mains pressure should push water into the Hot side and clear the airlock. If this doesn't work with your mixer, with the Cold shut off, open the...

Could well be an air lock. On the occasions I have one of those I connected the hot and cold taps together with hose. Turned both on for a time and the cold pushed the hot back, pushing out the air. Could be worth a try. Or you could wait until a plumber gives advice.

If this doesn't work with your mixer, with the Cold shut off, open the Hot and blow hard up the spout.......... IF you can get your mouth over it!

Always worked a treat with old-type mixers, but can be difficult with some modern ones.
