They seem to thrive in dark and dingy neglected areas.
Now you're in there, regular vacuuming and cleaning, and you should see them disappear.
Ant powder. I had this problem and it was recommended on here by an ex pest controller, Ratter. It worked.
We had a terrible infestation of them a few years ago. Could have gone down stairs in the early hours and switched on the lights and stomped on at least twenty every night. We bought a surface spray from B&Q and treated the laminate flooring close to the skirting boards following the directions on the tin. It killed 99% of them in one night and the residue left behind killed the ones that hatched later before they could lay their eggs. Within 3months they were all gone. The spray was called Dethlac. Marvellous stuff and would recommend it also killed other bugs such as earwigs too.
