Can anyone help me identify this beautiful climbing plant that I discovered in my garden today? The one with the big white and yellow flowers.

Is it a clematis?
Clematis Montana Tilly
How come you've only just noticed it? Where was it last year?:-)

Thank you both. It must have grown over from next door because I didn't plant it. I should have known it was a clematis. I feel silly now!

I think it must have been hidden amongst the other shrubs last year. Plus, it's in our woodland garden where its quiet and shady. We tend not to venture in there very much. You never know what's lurking in the woodpile.
A woodland garden? Lucky you...sounds lovely.

It sounds grander than it is, pasta. It's a shady are of the garden which has been planted with shrubs and flowers that like shady places. The birds and the hedgehogs love it, as do I.
As well as that lovely Clematis, I can see some hawthorn and some nice Ceanothus too.
My 2 ceanothus are in full bloom right now, great low maintenance shrubs!
I love ceanothus but mine suddenly died 2 years ago. I envy everyone who has those out at the moment, they're gorgeous.

We let ours get too big and now have a tree rater than a shrub!
