A friend of ours painted hall and landing, using a matt finish in magnolia. The thing is, I wanted him to do it in silver finish as it cleans easier. He persuaded me that matt would look better as it hides any little imperfections
Also, it's just as easy to wipe over if we get any dirty marks or smudges. After a couple of weeks I noticed a slight dark mark along the hall. So I dampened cloth with a mild detergent on and rubbed gently. Well, it looked awful after! I wish I'd stuck to my guns and had the silk.

Yes Anne I am so pleased with the result and it is only undercoat - will be lovely to see the gloss - also as I have said louvre doors in the hall (beneath bannisters all white too) they have been mahogany for hundreds of years.

I also had a mahogany radiator cover over my radiator and that is going out thru the winda too - too much. have got the guy to paint the radiator itself and it has come up a treat. I'll think I'm in heaven amongst the clouds LOL
very close friend just back from hols from Japan - wish I hadda asked her for one. Sure I thought I was on my way in Feb.

Well I think it sounds lovely and modern and peaceful, you deserve it :-)
Ah thanks Anne - everybody deserves all happiness
We do :-)
A vinyl matt emulsion like Dulux is wipeable so any little marks should come off without the paint coming off. A silk finish is more durable so you can be a bit rougher with washing it. If there are children around then I would probably opt for the silk because of the hand marks everywhere but the matt will hide imperfections in the walls better.

There's what painter said re - hiding imperfections with Matt. Seems he was more concerned about his handy work rather than my concerns re- cleaning! Oh well, will just have to keep paint and brush handy. By the way, got grandchild of 7 yrs old and cat!
I am back since things are on my head.

Cant believe this guy has done and more.

He asked me did I want bedroom doors (wood) painted of which I was delighted and said yes. Not only has painted the doors leading into stairs landing etc - taken off handles, BUT painted inside doors leading to bedrooms, hot press, and toilet. My God he has gone and done and beyond.

Wish I could keep him. I have had many workers work for me but never saw that thoroughness. Never.
I hope you have arranged a price in advance JJ?
he wanted paid daily every two days and he himself could he write it down on paper - of course I said.

Am awaiting him soon
^^^^ that's an Irish one - paid daily every two days
