Vaillant EcoMax topping up water pressure
6 Answers
My Eco Max boiler is almost one year old. Due to problems understanding the instructions for the wireless programmer I now wish I hadn't bought (!), I have had the heating switched off for some months. I have now noticed that the water pressure is below 1 bar. I have been told to look for two taps underneath the boile. Have found two with black plastic caps but don't know whether to turn one or both??? Also, can turn neither when I try. Does excessive force need to be applied?

On a new -ish boiler these taps should turn easily to top the pressure up to about 2.5 bar. If you've lost a lot of pressure do you have a leak somewhere? Personally I use a programmable thermostat to control different temperatures at different times of the day or night, and leave it untouched throughout the year.
The boiler you have is the best boiler on the market so dont let it put you off.The filling link on the ecomax is a black lever underneath which are quite stiff if you are concerned about using excessive force contact a plumber to have a remote filling loop fitted somewhere else (possibly on pipes just below boiler)
Thanks, both of you. I did need to push the taps pretty hard as they were indeed stiff, being newly fitted. But eventually they moved and I topped up the pressure, although only one tap seemed to be needed. I am reassured to be told that my boiler is a really good one, because I did lots of research before I bought it. I will have to post another question about the wireless programmer, because I do not understand the business of day and night temperatures. Perhaps you will be able to help me again?
I am assuming that your wireless programmer is a digistat (operated by batteries) the concept is straight forward once you know how it works.Basically what you have is 4 times to set & 4 temperatures to corresponr to the times so if you want it to come on @ 07:00 you put a temperature of approx 20 deg @ that time then put a lower temperature @ the time you want it to turn off hope this is of use to you
Previous answer was good and I don't want to blind you with science but you may get the info you need by clicking here..
