Anyone know how to get a big patch of ink from a leaky biro off a wood veneer surface?

I would try using a warm iron and brown paper rough side down. This should make the paper absorb the ink.
If it is fresh, methylated spirits is the best way to remove biro ink using cotton buds, but if it is badly engrained there really isn't much hope of a complete removal and you may just have to live with it. Many valuable antiques have old ink stains and are accepted as part of that piece of furniture's history - they are called 'witness marks'.
I have a pack of specialised stain removers, think it was from Lakeland, but should be on Amazon.

Thanks. I've managed to reduce the stain by about 50% using methylated spirits. The rest is so well soaked in I don't like my chances of removing it. "Witness marks" - yes my home is full of them, lol.
