Knitting Advice

Wasn't sure where to post this ... I have a pattern to knit a toy dog and it includes wrap and turn (w&t). I've done this before but am baffled by the instruction in this pattern:
K3, w&t, p6, w&T, K7, W&t, p8 etc. If I've only knitted 3 stitches on the first row how can I turn and then purl 6 ?

must have to add stitches as you progress...3..6...7...8...
